Diamonds Swift1985 labelimageminimize
Repton Superior Software1985Repton is a diamond collecting game similar to Boulder Dash. The player takes control of the eponymous lizard Repton who for each of the game's twelve levels has to collect all of its diamonds. At the same time, he has to watch out for falling boulders and monsters that may roam around and try to kill him. The time is limited and when it runs out the player loses a life. A life is also lost when being caught by a monster or being crushed beneath a boulder. The main difference between Repton and Boulder Dash is that Repton is calmer and has a focus on puzzle-solving rather than quick arcade action. Often there is only a specific route to take that the player must figure out or he risks being trapped between boulders. Some levels have eggs, safes, and keys. When eggs fall they will crack and a reptile will emerge from it. The player should avoid the reptiles as he will lose a life if he comes into contact with them. Keys need to be picked up to open the safes. Once opened a diamond will be revealed. The game uses a password system so the player can jump straight to the level he has the password for.

Around the World in 40 Screens Superior Software1986Around the World in 40 Screens is the first of three standalone expansion packs for Repton 3. As the title might indicate it includes 40 new levels made in the map editor that was included with the original game. The game features a world travelling theme and the levels are divided into five sets each representing a specific setting. These are:

• America
• Arctic
• Orient
• Oceans
• Africa

The gameplay is the same as in Repton 3 but all objects have been replaced with objects related to the setting. Instead of diamonds, there are for example hamburgers in the American levels and fish in the Arctic levels. Boulders have been replaced by coconuts in African levels and snowmen in Arctic levels and so on. Enemies include Indians and bandits in the American levels, polar bears and penguins in the Arctic levels and octopuses and squids in the Ocean level. Repton himself has a different role in each setting. In America he is a sheriff while in the Arctic he is an eskimo and in the Orient he is a kung-fu master.

Repton 2 Superior Software1986Repton 2 is, just like its predecessor, a puzzle-solving game about collecting diamonds. It features several new features and changes from the original formula. The biggest change is that it instead of separate levels features one big world where each sector is connected with teleporters. The basic gameplay is very similar though. The player digs his way through the dirt in search of diamonds and other objects and has to watch out for falling boulders or monsters (reptiles) that are out for him. Monsters appear from cracked eggs and will kill the player if he gets contact. They can be killed with falling boulders. Spirits follow the walls to their left until they reach a cage. In the cage, the spirit transforms into a diamond. To get all the diamonds the player, therefore, has to guide all the spirits to their cages. The player can also collect jigsaw puzzle pieces. These will then appear at the first screen and form the sentence "Repton 2 Is Ended". On the topmost levels of the world, the player has to watch out for meteors that fall from the sky.

The game involves more than just than collecting diamonds. To complete the game the player has to do all of the following:

collect all of the 4,744 earth sections
collect all of the 1,634 diamonds
kill all of the 18 monsters
use all of the 64 transporters
collect all of the 42 jigsaw puzzle pieces
collect a "finish character"

Unlike the original game, there is no time limit in Repton 2. Neither are there any save options so the player has to complete the whole game in one sitting.

Repton 3 Superior Software1986Repton 3 involves retrieving treasure from cleverly constructed traps of falling rocks whilst avoiding the monsters and spirits. Repton is a game requiring dexterity, and logical thinking to solve its puzzles over 24 levels.

This second sequel in the Repton franchise includes both a sprite editor and level editor so that players can design and share their own levels with each other. Other improvements over the previous Repton titles include larger levels, creeping poisonous fungus which grows at an alarming rate, time bombs and time capsules (for puzzles in the fourth dimension!).

Bone Cruncher Superior Software1987In Bone Cruncher the player takes the role of Bono, a dragon who makes a living by selling soap. His secret of success: he uses skeletons as ingredients. To restock, Bone has to collect more skeletons by traveling through a castle with 22 scrolling levels.

This game is a Boulder Dash variant. The levels are filled with dirt (which vanishes when Bono walks over it), monsters, and glooks (basically rocks with eyes). Monsters can only travel on ways without dirt and their touch is hazardous - some even eat up the skeletons. There are 25 skeletons to find in each level and specific steps have to worked out to reach them (e.g. using a glook to cut off a specific monster's path), giving the game a puzzle-solving character.

Repton Thru Time Superior Software1988Repton Thru Time is the final of three standalone expansion packs for Repton 3. It includes 40 new levels made in the map editor that was included with the original game. This time Repton is travelling through time and visits a number of historical places. There are five sets of levels each with eight levels. Each set represents an age or historical place and are as follows:

• Prehistoric times
• Ancient Egypt
• Victorian times
• Now
• Future

The gameplay is the same as in Repton 3 but all objects have been replaced with objects related to the setting. Instead of diamonds, there are for example berries in the prehistoric levels and papyrus scrolls in the Egyptian levels. Boulders have been replaced by garbage cans in the modern day levels and urns in the Egyptian levels and so on. In the same way each level has different enemies, for example policemen in the Victorian levels and aliens in the futuristic levels. The appearance of Repton also differs from level to level with outfits typical of the times.
